Motete Dyke project, Lesotho
Name and Location
Motete Dyke project, Lesotho.
Client
Paragon Diamonds.
Project Description
Motete is a substantial multiple kimberlite dyke (fissure system), located about 10 km from the Lemphane project and 23 km from Letšeng diamond mine. It covers a known diamondiferous dyke of more than 1.5 km in length, with an average width of 1.4 m.
Dyke 1 is exposed at surface and, historically, has been mined only by artisanal miners. The dyke runs along the deeply incised walls of the Motete river and is particularly accessible, with kimberlite material present at heights of up to 300 m above the valley floor.
Dyke 2 is being mapped and sampling will be conducted to understand the relationship between the dyke and the existing known diamondiferous system.

Latest Developments
A resource statement, released by the consultants MSA Group of South Africa in December 2012, defined a net attributable resource of 1.56-million tonnes at a grade of 65 carats per hundred tonnes for a net contained caratage of 1.015-million carats on a cutoff of 1.18 mm.
To confirm the higher values in the larger diamond sizes and thereby improve the average diamond values, additional bulk sampling will need to be undertaken when organisational resources permit. In the interim, Botle Diamonds, the group’s 85%-owned subsidiary, has applied for three further prospecting licences, with a combined area of 74 km², on adjacent ground.
Future discoveries on the applications will contribute additional tonnage and life-of-mine to the current established resource, thereby improving the project economics.
