More woes for ERA
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Uranium miner Energy Resources of Australia (ERA) has temporarily halted work at the ventilation shaft of its Ranger 3 Deeps exploration decline.
The company said on Monday that an area of soft ground at the Ranger 3 Deeps decline had gradually subsided beneath the top of the vent opening, adding that there was no environmental impact or any impact to employees or contractors.
Risk management procedures were in place and ERA would now implement a remediation plan to address the subsidence.
“As a precaution, all employees, contractors and equipment were removed from the top of the shaft on Friday afternoon,” said ERA CEO Andrea Sutton.
“Remediation work will now be undertaken to allow work on the ventilation shaft to be completed.”
Ventilation to the underground decline would continue through two existing air tubes, while underground development and drilling activities would also continue to plan.
Sutton said that the company did not expect any material impact on the Ranger 3 Deeps schedule, or on the overall project costs.
There was also no impact on the activities under way to restart plant processing operations, which have remained suspended from December last year, after a mixture of slurry moved outside the containment area, following the failure of a leach tank.
