PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold production at ASX-listed Ramelius Resources' Mt Magnet gold mine, in Western Australia, fell during the quarter ended December owing to the failure of a ball mill drive motor.

The Mt Magnet operation produced 16 036 oz of gold and 16 753 oz of fine gold, compared with the record 19 395 oz  of gold and 18 245 oz of fine gold produced in the previous quarter.

The miner was forced to stop production at Mt Magnet in November, and implemented a range of remedial actions to ramp up production at the mine.

Group production for the three months ended December reached 21 795 oz of fine gold, compared with the 18 538 oz of fine gold produced in the previous quarter.

Mining continued at the Coogee openpit during the quarter under review, with the Burbanks mill achieving production of 6 094 oz, with 5 042 oz of fine gold.

Mining at the Western Queen South operation also continued during the quarter, despite the wall failure interrupting progress during December.

Looking ahead, Ramelius estimated that the Mt Magnet mine, including the Western Queen mine, would deliver 20 000 oz during the three months to March, while Coogee was expected to produce about 7 000 oz of gold.
