Project Description
The Metates project hosts proven and probable reserves of 18.5-million ounces of gold, 526-million ounces of silver and 4.2-billion pounds of zinc. A prefeasibility study (PFS) completed on the project envisages a 25-year mine life, with average production of 659 000 oz/y of gold, 15.9-million ounces a year of silver and 190-million pounds a year of zinc, making it one of the largest gold and silver mines in the world. The PFS contemplates a conventional truck-and-shovel openpit mining operation, with a nominal 120 000 t/d throughput.

Initial capital costs are estimated at $4.36-billion, including $631-million in contingency costs and excluding sustaining capital costs of $584-million.

Latest Developments
Chesapeake is sufficiently financed to advance the Metates project towards the completion of a full feasibility study.

The company plans to undertake additional engineering design and metallurgical studies to further derisk the project.
