TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Gold producer McEwen Mining on Tuesday announced that it had received and accepted the resignation of co-founder Ian Ball, who would leave the company on July 15 to pursue new opportunities.

Ball joined current McEwen Mining CEO and chief owner Rob McEwen at Goldcorp in 2004, and was a founding member of management of McEwen Mining and its predecessor company, US Gold Corp.

During his time with the company, notable achievements included the building of the El Gallo 1 gold mine and making the El Gallo 2 silver discovery, in Mexico.

Ball’s responsibilities would be re-assigned to other management, including McEwen, on an interim basis.

Ball would also resign as a director of McEwen Mining subsidiary Minera Andes Acquisition Corp.
