The board of Glencore subsidiary Katanga Mining on Wednesday accepted the appointment of Mark Davis as CEO, replacing Jeff Gerard.

Global miner Glencore designated Davis to act as CEO, pursuant to the management services agreement that the companies entered into in January.

In terms of the agreement, Glencore makes some of its personnel available to Katanga and provides the African subsidiary with administrative, financial and other management services to support its operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Davis has also assumed Gerard’s seat on the board of directors.

Prior to joining Katanga, Davis was the executive general manager of Hong Kong-listed MMG's operational and growth objectives in Africa, Australia and Asia. He resigned from that position in July this year.

Prior thereto, he had general management responsibility for BHP’s aluminium smelting operations in South Africa.

Davis holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgical Engineering from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.

Katanga is listed on the TSX and traded 4% down on Wednesday morning at C$0.12 a share, giving the copper and cobalt miner a market capitalisation of C$228.89-million.
