Name and Location
Marillana iron-ore railway project, Australia.

Client
Brockman Mining.

Project Description
An initial railway study has been completed to underpin an integrated logistics solution for Brockman’s 20-million-tonne-a-year Marillana project, in the East Pilbara. The independent railway is one of a number of logistics solution options being considered by the company to deliver its high-quality iron-ore to the export market.

Brockman commissioned the study owing to the prolonged process in accessing current and potential third-party rail in the Pilbara. The prolonged process has significantly delayed Brockman’s production timetable.

The proposed railway is predicated on a standard gauge design, 26 t axle load and incorporates an Ausbeam track system – a ballastless track system with continuous rail support. The wagon design specification is based on current bottom-dump wagons used in Western Australia.

The study has demonstrated strong commercial credits for the project to support an initial rail capacity of 30-million tonnes a year to a designated berth in Port Hedland, with the capability to be expanded to 50-million tonnes a year for other junior miners.
