Manas gets enviro nod for Shambesai
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Manas Resources has gained environmental approval for its Shambesai gold project, in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The company told shareholders that the completion of the environmental- and social-impact assessment process, known as OVOS, was a major milestone for the company.
“Award of the OVOS further demonstrates the company’s capacity to deliver on its commitments and shows it is possible for us to work successfully with the regulatory authorities of the Kyrgyz Republic,” said Manas MD Stephen Ross.
He noted that Shambesai was the first new major gold mine to complete the OVOS process for some time.
The company was now working on the approval of the final permits to start construction at Shambesai, including the sanitary protection zone - a buffer zone around the project required under local legislation. The sanitary protection zone would likely be completed by late July.
Other ongoing permitting activities for the project relate to the technical design of the mine and process plant facilities, as well as safety reviews. These permitting activities should be completed by the third quarter of this year, allowing construction to start before year end.
The Shambesai project was expected to produce about 227 000 oz of gold over a four-and-a-half year life-of-mine.
Manas was currently also advancing financing and capital requirement discussions for the Shambesai gold project.
