Name and Location
Maitland River magnetite project, Pilbara, Australia.

Client
Iron Ore Holdings (IOH).

Project Description
Maitland River currently has a Joint Ore Reserves Committee inferred resource of 1.1-billion tonnes, hosted in three deposit areas.

A concept study on the project has confirmed that mining could involve a relatively low stripping ratio of 1.5 t of waste to one tonne of ore to deliver ten-million tonnes a year of concentrate for up to 20 years. Indications are that a relatively good-quality magnetite concentrate could be produced.

Processing will most likely require two separate circuits, including a magnetic separation circuit for the recovery of magnetite and a flotation circuit for the recovery of the nonmagnetic component of the orebody.

Value
Not stated.

Duration
A prefeasibility study is targeted for completion this year, the definitive feasibility study for 2014 and first ore is expected to be shipped in 2017/18.

Latest Developments
The concept study highlights the need for considerable additional metallurgical testwork during the prefeasibility study to improve the current estimates of product size and yield and to optimise product specification, as these parameters could be key financial drivers determining the development viability of the project.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
None stated.

On Budget and on Time?
Not stated.
