Project Description
The Lomas II project will extend the Lomas Bayas mine’s life by 16 years, until at least 2028, at existing production levels of 75 000 t/y of copper cathodes.

The project involves the development of the Fortuna de Cobre openpit, located 3 km from the operation’s original mine and infrastructure, and the construction of a new primary crusher, a conveyor transport system and new heap pads and run-of-mine leach pads.

Value
The project involved an estimated investment of $300-million.

Duration
The project was approved in the fourth quarter of 2009.

Xstrata announced the completion of project construction in December 2012.

Latest Developments
The project started commissioning on schedule.
