PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold developer Red Mountain Mining on Tuesday said its Batangas gold project, in the Philippines, had been given tangible support from the surrounding community, as some 1 200 local residents held a prodevelopment rally.

“We are very grateful for the overwhelming show of local community support for the development of the Batangas project,” said MD Jon Dugdale.

“We have a 12-year record of funding and supporting social development and environmental and community progammes, and this is now paying dividends for us.”

Dugdale said that securing local community support was one of the most significant hurdles for any international mining company.

The A$22.7-million Batangas project is expected to deliver some 100 000 oz/y gold and 250 000 oz/y silver, by processing about 10.3-million tonnes of ore a year. The project was expected to have a mine life of just over five years.
