Pan-African telecoms group Liquid Telecom is increasing connectivity and network capacity in Botswana by expanding fibre access through the Lobatse border and connecting to Gaborone.

Some 82 km of fibre is being activated in the cross-border network into Botswana, providing more people and businesses in the country with access to Liquid Telecom’s over 73 000 km of fibre and creating efficient mobility and connectivity.

“We know that fibre is key to providing Africa with high-speed, affordable digital connectivity and [Liquid Telecom] has plans to create even more valuable connections throughout the continent,” says Liquid Telecom Botswana MD Odirile Tamajobe.

Prior to this fibre implementation, Liquid Telecom Botswana did not have a cross-border connectivity network.

“With this link going live, the organisation has started making inroads to establish itself as a dominant presence in Botswana and provide businesses and consumers with greater reach and network speeds across the country.”

Reliable and fast connectivity is vital to growing a country’s economy by opening doors to ecommerce and other global digital opportunities, adds Liquid Telecom Southern Africa CEO Wellington Makamure.

This expansion also focuses on growing Liquid Telecom’s wholesale, enterprise, and retail offering across Botswana, resulting in improved customer service and the delivery of new products.

The Botswana operation forms a crucial part of Liquid Telecom’s focus on the Southern Africa region, in addition to Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.
