Advanced industry, banks and natural resources have contributed to making South Africa a significant economy on the African continent. But, to bring power to the remotest corners of the country, to maintain its economic growth momentum and grow ‘green’, South Africa had to accelerate the adoption of efficient, economic, sustainable and ecofriendly modes of electricity generation, ABB VP Maxine Ghavi said earlier this month. Restricting solar power to 10 MW bite-sizes is a no-no. We have superior sun and must let it shine in. Failure to do so is to restrict climate-positive economic growth.
