TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Nevada-focused gold miner Klondex Mines on Monday reported that it had completed excavating the secondary egress at its Fire Creek gold project, paving the way for the Mine Safety and Health Administration to authorise the company to start its bulk sampling programme.

Klondex said the hoist was set and was currently being commissioned. The secondary egress, including the ventilation system, was expected to be operational by mid-November.

“The progress made at Fire Creek this past year has been impressive, as the new management team continues to deliver on the project's major milestones. The completion of the secondary escape-way represents the final hurdle to initiate our bulk-sampling programme,” CEO Paul Huet said.

Klondex last month announced results of a new technical report for the Fire Creek underground gold project, validating the project as a high-grade endeavour.

The new National Instrument 43-101-compliant resource estimate now consisted of measured and indicated resources totalling 295 900 oz of gold, grading 44.7 g/t gold and inferred resources of 421 400 oz of gold, grading 19.2 g/t, when applying a 7 g/t gold cutoff.

The new mineral resource estimate, completed by consulting resource professionals Practical Mining, illustrated the high grades at Fire Creek, and confirmed the continuity of gold mineralisation down-dip and along strike from work completed largely in the Main zone.
