PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Diamond miner Kimberley Diamonds has announced that it would restart mining at the E9 pit, at its Ellendale operations, in Western Australia.

Mining at the E9 pit was halted following a routine blast, which caused some slippage of the pit wall to occur beneath the main access ramp, which has temporarily rendered the ramp unsafe for use.

The slippage required the construction of a buttress to allow safe access to the pit. The buttress was completed in November last year.

Kimberley noted that production at E9 was currently continuing from the lower-grade surface ore stockpiles, which had a resource grade of 2.48 ct/100 t.

Meanwhile, Kimberley on Monday also announced that it had received consent from the Botswana Competition Authority to acquire Mantle Diamonds.

The ASX-listed Kimberley made a play for Mantle Diamonds in September last year, in exchange for more than 13.5-million of its own shares. Mantle’s flagship project is the Lerala diamond mine, which was currently under care and maintenance.

Kimberley intended to bring the operation back online during 2014.
