Keysbrook production starts ahead of schedule
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Keysbrook mineral sands project, in Western Australia, has achieved first production some three weeks ahead of schedule.
Following the start of 24-hour mining operations and the mechanical completion of the mining feed unit and the wet concentrator plant, first ore had been fed into the mining feed unit and concentration plant, with heavy mineral concentrate (HMC) production starting immediately.
“First HMC production is a great milestone for our shareholders and the team at MZI. To complete the wet concentration plant well ahead of schedule and on budget reflects the quality of the team and project,’ said MZI MD Trevor Matthews.
“The Keysbrook project is performing exceedingly well and we now look forward to commencing product sales later this year.”
The project would be progressively commissioned to full capacity during the current quarter. HMC would be stockpiled on site ahead of the commissioning of the upgraded and expanded mineral separation plant in November, with first sales targeted for December.
The project would produce 95 000 t/y of leucoxene and zircon products.
