Project Description
Kevin’s Corner is an advanced coal project, which has a mine life of more than 30 years.

HGPL proposes to develop the project, a 30-million-tonne-a-year opencut and underground thermal coal mine, in the Galilee basin. The project includes the development of a 17.8 km rail spur, an airport and associated mining infrastructure.

The majority of run-of-mine coal will be produced from three individual retreating underground longwall operations of about 695-million tonnes and the remainder from two opencut operations of about 184-million tonnes.

Overburden will be removed using truck and shovel, excavators and dragline operations, while the coal will be mined and transported by truck, excavator and conveyors to an on-site coal handling and preparation plant. It will then be conveyed to a train load-out facility for haulage.

The project proposes to use the railway infrastructure of the Alpha coal project to transport coal to the Port of Abbot Point, in Bowen.

The project will cost an estimated A$4.2- billion to develop.

Duration
Construction is expected to start on Kevin’s Corner in 2015, with coal expected in 2018.
