Kevin Bates Albert Group Initiative Produces 15 More Qualified Flooring Installers
Company Announcement - Fifteen more Johannesburg members of the Kevin Bates Albert Carpets Group installation team have completed their Construction Education and Training Authority-accredited Floorcovering Learnerships. CETA CEO, Sonja Pilusa, recently handed out the Learnership Certificates at a special function at the KBAC premises in Linbro Park Business Park. A total of 25 of Kevin Bates Flooring & Carpeting’s 40 flooring installers in Johannesburg are now qualified. A further 10 installers at the Group’s Albert Carpets operations in Cape Town have commenced learnerships and the Group is planning to implement Recognition of Prior Learning programmes for the rest of eligible installers at both Johannesburg and Cape Town operations.
The KBAC Group started its training initiative in 2011 to improve the skills of staff and to ensure that the company had the necessary qualified workforce for the future. The initiative was in line with government’s call for employers to upskill staff and create job opportunities. As part of their training, the installers who received qualifications on October 3 this year were mentored by KBAC’s vastly experienced installers, some of whom have been working for KBAC for over 30 years and are among the most skilled flooring installers in South Africa.
Two of the first intake of KBAC learners, Eugene Ziyatonga and Martin Mncube, have since started their own contract businesses; while the thirst for further knowledge was instilled in former KBAC installer, Nsizwa Simelane, who has left the company and is now studying Electrical Engineering.
