KalNorth refines Lindsay’s mine production plans
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior gold miner KalNorth Gold Mines has further refined production plans at its Lindsay’s mine, lowering costs as it prepared to suspend opencut mining.
At the start of May, KalNorth announced that it would suspend openpit mining at Lindsay’s at the end of the June quarter in response to the decreasing gold price. The miner said, at the time, that it had revamped the mine plan to lower costs and improve profitability.
In a statement on Tuesday, KalNorth noted that it had further lowered operating costs by moving to a lower extraction rate and adopting a single-shift operation, while mining higher-grade ore.
Some 75 000 t of ore would be mined in the June quarter, which matched the delivery rates of 25 000 t/m contracted to the Saracen mill.
KalNorth noted that the remaining 90 000 t of ore at the Lindsay’s mine would be mined during the September quarter, adding that the previously stated objective of extracting some 165 000 t of ore for 13 500 oz of gold to December, remained unchanged.
The miner said that by matching tonnage produced with tonnage processed, there would be minimum costs associated with mining for stockpile.
