KalNorth prepares for mining start at first project
PERTH (miningweekly.com) - ASX-listed junior KalNorth Gold Mines has started ground clearing at its first gold mine in Western Australia.
The company reported on Friday that earthworks had started in preparation for mining at the Lindsay mine, some 50 km north of Kalgoorlie.
The openpit mine was expected to produce some 440 000 t of ore during its 18 months of operation, to produce some 40 000 oz of gold. Ore would be processed at the nearby Carosue Dam processing plant, starting in February this year.
KalNorth was also investigating the possibility of future underground mining at Lindsay.
“Our comprehensive preparation resulted in rapid Mines Department approval. We are already clearing and stripping the mine site,” said KalNorth MD John McKinstry.
“Our focus is on early ore production from near-surface material, beginning with the Parrot Feathers deposit. This will give us cash flow within a few months.”
McKinstry noted that it was pleasing to see the first of KalNorth’s four operations starting work on time, and added that the project start was a transformational moment for the company.
The cash flow expected from the Lindsay project would assist in funding KalNorth’s further exploration programmes, which were aimed at increasing the company’s resource base. The miner was also well advanced in planning its next three mines on the KalNorth goldfield.
