PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior KalNorth Gold Mines would launch a scoping study for the development of a modular processing plant to process ore from its gold field, in Western Australia.

The study, which would investigate the development of a plant with the capacity of between 500 000 t/y and one-million tonnes a year, would determine mining opportunities, initial location, as well as the economics of various options.

The plant would be modular in design, and KalNorth noted that the scoping study would also include the possibility of the plant taking ore in from other potential producers.

Chairperson Laurence Freedman said on Tuesday that the company’s initial decision to haul and toll treat ore offsite has proved uneconomic at the lower gold price.

Meanwhile, KalNorth has also been approached by two international groups, one of which was proposing a conditional gold production streaming funding, while a second group was seeking to invest in the KalNorth gold field, subject to satisfactory scoping and feasibility studies.

The KalNorth gold fields include the Mount Jewell, Lindsay’s, Kalpini and Kurnalpi prospects.
