Project Description
The Lynas Kalgoorlie plant will undertake the cracking and leaching of rare-earth concentrate from Lynas’s Mt Weld mine, which is also located in Western Australia’s Goldfields region.
The value-added processing to be undertaken in Kalgoorlie is aligned with the Australian government’s Critical Minerals Strategy and the objective of the Western Australian government to increase downstream processing and the development of intellectual property in the state.
Potential Job Creation
The plant is expected to create up to 500 jobs during peak construction.
Lynas intends to staff the plant with a local, residential workforce.

Latest Developments
Lynas Corporation has marked the first step of the construction of its rare earths processing plant in Kalgoorlie with the award of a $15-million contract to Metso Outotec to supply the plant’s kiln.
The 110-m-long, 1 500 t kiln is the largest and longest lead-time piece of equipment required for the plant’s operation, and is an important milestone in the development of the new processing plant, Lynas CEO and MD Amanda Lacaze has said.
