Project Description
The Lynas Kalgoorlie plant will undertake the cracking and leaching of rare-earth concentrate from Lynas’s Mt Weld mine, which is also located in Western Australia’s Goldfields region.

The value-added processing to be undertaken in Kalgoorlie is aligned with the Australian government’s Critical Minerals Strategy and the objective of the Western Australian government to increase downstream processing and the development of intellectual property in the state.

Potential Job Creation
The plant is expected to create up to 500 jobs during peak construction.

Lynas intends to staff the plant with a local, residential workforce.

Latest Developments
Lynas was awarded major project status for the Kalgoorlie project by the Australian government in February 2020.

Major project status formally recognises the strategic significance of the project to the Australian economy and provides a single entry point for Commonwealth government approvals, as well as project support and coordination and assistance with state government  approvals.
