Project Description
A purpose-designed MTTP is being built at the Jwaneng mine.
A substantial volume of diamond tailings has been accumulating at the mine since operations began in 1983, before the mine’s recrush facilities were introduced.
The MTTP will treat 2.4-million tons of old tailings a year and is expected to yield 18-million carats over 20 years.
This will add 900 000 ct/y to Debswana’s production.
The plant will serve as a pilot facility with the potential for deployment to other Debswana mines.

The project is estimated at $93.75-million.
Duration
The first carats from the MTTP were recovered in November 2014.

The project is currently forecast to be completed a month behind the original schedule date, owing to the liquidation of the main steel supplier.
