JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Dual-listed Jubilee Platinum is on the hunt for further surface platinum opportunities following the success of its ASA Metals and Hernic tailings projects.

The mine-to-metals specialist said in an update to shareholders on Monday that a study had been commissioned to determine a process strategy for an identified further 500 000 t of similar platinum-containing surface material.

The company currently targeted combined processing of platinum-containing surface material over the ASA Metals and Hernic tailings projects of more than 900 000 t/y.

Jubilee was preparing to commission its ASA Metals chrome processing plant this month and to fast-track its Hernic tailings project for commissioning in the fourth quarter of the year.

The major plant process components for the ASA plant, Jubilee’s first platinum project, were delivered to and erected on the site in February, while all the final tie-ins for piping, electrics and controls were being completed.

Commissioning of the 35 000 t/m plant was scheduled for the end of February, with ramp-up to full production during March.

Meanwhile, the final offers for the long-lead project process items, including the vertical tower fine grind mill and the large flotation cells, for the 55 000 t/m Hernic processing plant had been confirmed.

The final quotes were under review and the selection and appointment of preferred contractors was expected to be completed over the next week.
