Indian mineral production dips in May

KOLKATA (miningweekly.com) – India’s index of mineral production during May 2017 fell 0.9% compared with the corresponding month of 2016, according to a statement of the Mines Ministry.

The total value of mining and quarrying, excluding atomic and minor minerals, during May 2017, was pegged at an estimated $3.13-billion.

The index of mineral production was as per the new series with a base year of 2011/12.

The contribution of coal, to the total value of mineral production, was highest, at $1.12-billion, or roughly 36% of the total value of minerals produced during the month.

This was followed by crude petroleum production at $880-million, iron-ore valued at $398-million, natural gas at $349-million, limestone at $94-million and lignite at $73-million.
