Hengstler Encoders  (0.05 MB)

Technology and flexibility are the key characteristics of the Hengstler ICURO and ACURO series range of incremental and absolute rotary encoders. Monolithically integrated opto-ASICS will reliably replace up to 200 SMD components and due to the modular construction of the encoders, users can select the required configuration from over two million possible rotary encoders.

Countapulse Controls, the authorised distributor for all Hengstler products, has extensive applications knowledge and experience in assisting customer to select the most appropriate encoder for an application.

Hengstler offers a complete portfolio of incremental and absolute single- or multi-turn encoders. Users can choose from a number of options, based on the performance levels they require. Variations include high resolution, optical as well as magnetic encoders as well as outside diameters of between 30 and 80 mm. Other choices include hollow and solid shaft types, standard electrical and mechanical interfaces and encoders with stainless housing or for hazardous environments.

Equipped with an open BiSS sensor interface, Hengstler’s ACURO absolute rotary encoders offer innovative engineering, easy operation and optimised functional dependability. The platform-based concept allows compact construction and modular internal components, enabling Countapulse Controls to provide customers with the optimum solution for applications involving motor feedback and automation.

There are 13 different models in the Hengstler absolute encoder range including the ACURO AC36 with a single-turn resolution up to 17 bits. This model has a 6 mm solid shaft and its counterpart is the hollow-shaft AD36 mode. Operating temperature is between -40°C and +100°C and it has a BiSS or SSI interface, with optional sinus 1 Vss interface. The AC36 provides 10 000 r.p.m. in continuous operation, with a geared optical multi-turn.

Countapulse Controls also distributes the Hengstler range of incremental rotary encoders from cost conscious standard models through to the extremely robust heavy duty variants. A line-coded disc made of metal, plastic or glass and mounted on a rotary bearing, interrupts a beam of light from a light-emitting diode. The number of lines determines the resolution in terms of the number of measured points in one revolution. The interruptions of the light beam are sensed by the receptor element and electronically processed. The information is then made available as a rectangular signal at the encoder output. Hengstler rotary encoders are capable of providing measurements of up to 10 000 pulses per revolution.

The HD20 is one of 20 different incremental encoders available from Countapulse Controls. It is offered in one- or two-channel versions and boasts ATEX certification for intrinsically safe devices. The HD20 is a high-resolution encoder with an unbreakable code disc. It is available in a nickel or stainless steel housing and has NEMA 4X, IP67 ingress protection.

Accurate sinewave Hengstler rotary encoders are popular in drives with high dynamics, due to their low harmonic distortion. They have excellent immunity to interference and high functional dependability due to control and system monitoring. The broad working temperature range allows the motor to be used more effectively to capacity.

In addition to its standard range of Hengstler absolute and rotary encoders, Countapulse Controls also offers encoders for special applications. These include those built for increasing the efficiency of onshore and offshore wind plants, for harsh and hazardous environments, and for the oil and gas sector.

Hengstler encoders in the wind energy sector are used for pitch and yaw control as well as for generator speed feedback and have saltwater resistant housing materials for offshore plants, combined with integrated diagnostic functions.

Hengstler offers a series of incremental and absolute encoders in a compact size that are able to provide the ruggedness of larger magnetic ring kit encoders. These heavy duty encoders are designed for reliable operation in harsh environments, with features like extreme shock and vibration resistance, wash down protection (protection class up to IP69k), ATEX certification for hazardous environments and complete corrosion resistant construction.

As one of the most potentially dangerous environments, the oil and gas industry requires reliable encoders that meet stringent industry standards. Hengstler’s encoders offer advanced sensing technology and reliable solutions for the industry, with ATEX Zone 0 and Zone 1, NEC Class I Div II, CE and CSA certifications. Designed for use at temperatures of between -50 and +100°C, they are independently tested at up to 400G shock and 20G vibration. These encoders provide reliable output signals at distances of up to 305 metres, with high current driver. They offer the industry’s toughest optical engine, with an unbreakable disc.

The multitude of variants offered in the wide range of models means that Countapulse Controls’ customers will be able to find an encoder solution that is ideally suited to their needs. In addition, the company also offers a technical helpline to assist its customers in both their selection of products as well as in operational queries that may occur.
