Platinum group metals (PGMs) miner Impala Platinum (Implats) has concluded agreements to acquire a further 8.54-million shares in Royal Bafokeng Platinum (RBPlat).

Implats now holds about 44.48% of RBPlat's shares in issue.

Implats has made an offer to acquire all RBPlat shares but has been locked in a battle with fellow PGMs miner Northam Platinum, which was also seeking full control of RBPlat.

Northam has since withdrawn its offer to acquire all RBPlat shares but holds 35.4% of RBPlat's shares. It has yet to say what it intends to do with its shareholding in RBPlat.
