Ideso industrial design establishes and improves unique courier service

Ideso, product design company based in Cape Town and honoured with the Red Dot Design Awards’ Best of the Best in 2012, recently successfully completed the refurbishment of the Aramex Drop Boxes.
The Drop Boxes, used as the deposit vehicle for Aramex’ Store-to-Door Courier service were originally designed and manufactured by Ideso in 2010. Aramex, renamed from Berco Express, launched this service to attract small businesses and the general public and is a first of its kind in South Africa. A solution was sought for an attractive eye catching yet secure unit that was easy to transport and almost maintenance free. Ideso fitted the bill offering a turnkey service from design through to manufacturing.
“This was an interesting project for us, which has now come full circle. We originally designed to meet our client’s needs, managing the project through to a completed product that provided a unique product offering. Now that Berco has been sold to multinational courier Aramex, we have had the opportunity to manufacture 200 additional boxes and refurbish the existing units”, says Marc Ruwiel, owner and senior designer at Ideso.
According to Christopher Shorten, Senior Business Analyst at Aramex, “Ideso has a good reputation for quality of work and project management. It was an obvious decision for them to fulfil the refurbishment of the drop boxes.”
The Store-to-Door Courier service is available nationally from 245 Pick n Pay stores, 15 Freshstop convenience stores at Caltex with another 40 planned and at 20 3@1 business centres.
