TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – The members of United Steelworkers (USW) Local 7106 and USW Local 9338 have ratified new three-year collective agreements with Canadian base metals producer HudBay Minerals, representing about 67% of its Manitoba workforce.

Representing about 1 090 unionised employees at its Manitoba operations, USW Local 7106 represented production workers at the Manitoba operations and USW Local 9338 represented office and technical workers.

HudBay on Monday explained that negotiations were ongoing with four other unions and production continued at Hudbay's Manitoba operations.

About 180 members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Local No 1848 had been on strike since May 2.

HudBay had a substantial footprint in Manitoba, where it operated the 777 mine, the Lalor zinc/copper/gold/silver mine, the Reed high-grade copper project, as well as processing complexes in Flin Flon and Snow Lake.
