How structure, leadership and governance determine investment and growth
RMB Ventures CEO Amina Pahad looks at what makes an industrial business ready for outside investment or a strategic partner, including leadership depth, governance, transparency and the ability to reduce dependencies as the business grows. Camerawork: Shadwyn Dickinson. Editing: Nicholas Boyd & Shadwyn Dickinson. Journalist: Mariaan Webb.
An industrial business may have strong growth opportunities, but its ownership and leadership structures can determine whether it is equipped to pursue them.
In Episode 2, Part 2 of IN FOCUS: Built to Last – The Future of South Africa’s Industrial Businesses, RMB Ventures CEO Amina Pahad considers what makes a business ready for outside investment or a strategic partner, including clarity around why a partner is needed, transparency and a willingness to strengthen leadership and governance.
She says investors also look beyond the quality of the underlying business, with leadership depth, succession planning and governance affecting both transaction risk and valuation.
Pahad highlights the importance of reducing dependencies, improving the quality of business information and professionalising governance without undermining the flexibility and entrepreneurial qualities that helped build the company.
Watch Part 2 of Episode 2 for more on preparing an industrial business for investment, growth and future ownership options.
