Production is continuing at the Inmaculada mine, in Peru, despite violent actions from the nearby community, London-listed Hochschild Mining reported on Thursday.

The company said that a group of about 30 people from a local community had broken into the Inmaculada mining unit on Monday and severely damaged non-critical installations.

Hochschild held discussions with community representatives this week, but had failed to reach an agreement. Further discussions would be held next week with representatives from the Peruvian government also scheduled to attend.

The company stated that it expected relevant authorities to intervene to prevent future disruptive and violent acts.

Hochschild has been facing opposition from communities, which believe that the company's mines pollute local water sources – a claim which the firm categorically denies.

Inmaculada is an underground gold and silver mine, which accounts for most of Hochschild's revenue.
