Hilton, Transcorp to develop new Lagos hotel
Diversified Nigerian conglomerate the Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) announced in September that it had partnered with global hospitality company Hilton Worldwide for the development of a fully serviced 350-room hotel development in the Ikoyi suburb of Lagos.
Construction on the proposed Transcorp Hilton Lagos would begin early next year and would, once completed, become the partnership’s second hotel, following the establishment of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja.
Jointly owned by Transcorp’s hospitality arm Transnational Hotels and Tourism Services and pan-African proprietary investment com-pany Heirs Holdings, the hotel will boast full conference facilities, meeting rooms, a gym, spa and a swimming pool.
Speaking at the official signing of the man-agement contract between the parties, Heirs Holdings chairperson Tony Elumelu said the agreement marked another milestone in the company’s long-standing partnership with Hilton Worldwide.
“The Ikoyi development, along with the extensive refurbishment and upgrade of our existing hotels in Calabar and Abuja, demonstrates our commitment to driving growth in real estate and hospitality, a strategic sector for Nigeria’s economic development.
“The new Transcorp Hilton Lagos will not only present an additional world-class venue for the increasing numbers of investors, businessmen and tourists to Nigeria, but is creating much-needed jobs for our citizens, enabling their social and economic devel-opment,” he commented.
