PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Copper miner Hillgrove Resources has reported a 25% increase in the contained copper at its Kanmantoo mine, in South Australia.

The project’s in-situ ore reserve has been estimated at 20.7-million tonnes, at 0.73% copper, 0.18 g/t gold and 1.9 g/t silver for 157 000 t of contained copper, 128 000 oz of contained gold and 1.35-million ounces of contained silver.

“The increase in the ore reserve underscores the life and economic potential of the Kanmantoo mine. Continuing to enhance the operational capability while lowering cost and reducing debt, are key to the long-term success of the project,” said MD Greg Hall.

He noted that along with the immediate improvements, the company would also review further organic growth through resource and regional exploration potential.

Earlier this year, Hillgrove switched from a contract operation to an owner-operator model at Kanmantoo in an effort to cut back on costs, and the miner was currently reviewing further optimisation work to improve operations at Kanmantoo.
