The Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and International Convention Centre, in Gauteng, has secured an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) with a commendable B rating, where A represents the highest achievable rating and G the lowest.New regulations, gazetted in December 2020, require nonresidential buildings in South Africa to have their energy performance assessed by an accredited inspector and display their EPC at the building’s entrance. The regulations apply to nonresidential buildings with a net floor area of at least 2 000 m2in the private sector and 1 000 m2for government buildings. Energy performance is measured in terms the national EPC standard, SANS 1544:2014 and property owners and public facilities have until December 7, 2022 to comply.
