Harnessing technology and PR - the leaders behind SWM Communications
In celebration of Women's Month, SWM Communications, a leading integrated marketing and communications consultancy, proudly highlights the remarkable achievements of its women-led team. Founded by Sandy Wardle, a visionary electrical engineer, SWM Communications has been promoting groundbreaking innovation in the built and technology environment sectors for 20 years.
“SWM was started when I recognised the crucial need to effectively communicate complex technical solutions in the engineering field to a broader audience,” notes Wardle, adding that with her intricate knowledge of engineering and technology and ability to articulate these concepts in an engaging and accessible manner, she built a team who shared her vision.
“The rapid integration of artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analytics within the PR and communications space is very exciting for me. As early adopters of data analytics and software development, we employ not only communications professionals in our team but a data analyst, software developer and, of course, engineers.”
The team is led by MD Brindaveni Naidoo, who has 18 years of experience in journalism and corporate communications within the built and engineering sectors. “At SWM Communications, we understand the role that effective public relations and digital marketing play in the infrastructure space. Our team is committed to leveraging innovative strategies that enhance brand visibility but also inspire action and excellence within the infra- structure space,” adds Naidoo.
The team, which includes business director Amy Wardle and account director Charles Poulter, has implemented successful digital and traditional advertising, marketing, public relations, design and communications strategies for various clients. Senior account manager Megan van Wyngaardt, communications officer Amaris Naidoo and junior account manager Phyllis Chikondo also add to the diverse skills set of the organisation. The graphic design team is led by manager Jade Eades, and supported by multimedia designer Njabulo Masondo and design intern Boikanyo Madini, further adding gravitas to the services provided.
Junior account manager Chikondo obtained her degree in civil engineering before joining the team. This background, she believes, gives their clients an edge. “Our slogan reflects our commitment to supporting and uplifting engineers, helping our clients gain visibility, building their professional reputation, and unlocking opportunities for business growth,” she notes.
SWM also organises a number of prestigious events for industry bodies and public sector clients in the construction and engineering sectors, and have also been innovators in developing some leading events in this environment from concept to completion. SWM Project Manager Sabine Eades brings to the team 20 years of experience in managing client events, and is assisted by Charmaine Pienaar, who has extensive experience in conference and exhibition management.
As SWM Communications looks to the future, the company envisions itself as a trailblazer in the integrated marketing and communications industry, setting new standards and redefining the landscape in the built and technology environment sectors. “As a company, we are passionate about the transfer of skills and knowledge both within our company and with our clients,” says Naidoo.
SWM’s aspirations extend beyond mere expansion; it aims to be pioneers of innovation, champions of diversity and beacons of ethical business practices.
With its multi-disciplinary team, based in Gauteng and the Western Cape, SWM Communications is able to deliver customised business solutions to capitalise on opportunities for its clients.
“We place great value on our people because our performance is only as good as our team, and we are fortunate to have a great team.
“We like to say that we are engineers promoting engineers,” Wardle concludes.
