South Africa’s long history of mining and engineering continues to provide a base of technical expertise that is sought after internationally, says SRK Consulting South Africa MD Andrew van Zyl.
In Part 2 of Episode 1 of IN FOCUS: Built to Last – The Future of South Africa’s Industrial Businesses, Van Zyl discusses the specialist expertise that has enabled South African mining professionals and companies to build a presence across global markets.
He says SRK’s international clients turn to the consultancy to solve complex and often highly specialised technical problems, drawing on expertise developed across areas of mining and engineering.
South Africa’s established mining industry, universities and historical graduate-training programmes have also helped create a deep skills base. Van Zyl says South African professionals are now widely dispersed across the global mining industry, taking their experience and knowledge into other jurisdictions.
