Hapman, the bulk handling industry’s leading manufacturer of engineered material handling equipment, has designed a unique flexible screw conveyor that allows for batching of material within +/- 1 lb. or less of set point. The Loss-In-Weight Helix® is a fully automated dosing system that is equipped with programmable logic and system integration tie-in functionality. The LIW Helix has load cells built into the frame assembly. The flexible screw conveyor carries the material to an elevated point at the required flow rate. Once the load cells indicate the flow volume is within 5 lbs. of set maximum the conveyor is automatically slowed to dribble mode. When the required batch volume is reached, the conveyor is precisely and automatically stopped.

“Processing plants from food, to chemical, to nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical can benefit from the LIW Helix. As plants expand and change out production lines, often material needs to be transported from a lower, ground-level position to an elevated mezzanine for mixing, cooking, or blending. The batching functionality of the LIW Helix allows for the measurement and automation of a dosed amount of material while conveying simultaneously. This equipment feature offers operating and cost savings because two operations are completed in one piece of equipment,” explains Mike Zeluff, Hapman Helix Product Manager.

The LIW Helix is available from 3” to 8” nominal case diameter with average capacity ranges from .5 to 15 cu ft. per minute and a discharge height of 10 to 12 ft. (depending on conveyor size). Hopper sizes can range from 10 cu ft. up to 60 cu ft. Additional features can be added to the unit such as: a Hi-Lo option for easy raise and lower of the conveyor for cleaning or auger change out, 304 or 316 hopper material, flexible connections, automated and manual discharge shut-off valves, and more. For more information on the LIW Helix. visit www.hapman.com or contact Mike Zeluff at 269-382-8268 or mzeluff@hapman.com
