Project Description
The expansion will encompass the construction of a new lithium concentrate plant capable of producing 520 000 t/y of chemical-grade lithium concentrate, a new crushing plant and necessary infrastructure.

The crushing plant and infrastructure will have sufficient capacity to support the concentrate plant and another similarly sized chemical-grade lithium concentration plant.

The expansion and debottlenecking of the existing lithium concentration plants will increase lithium concentrate production capacity at Greenbushes by 608 000 t/y to about 1.95-million tonnes a year, or 260 000 t/y of lithium carbonate equivalent.

Potential Job Creation
During the construction phase, the workforce on site is expected to peak at more than 300. About 250 new permanent jobs will be created once the lithium concentrate plant is fully operational.

The project is estimated A$516-million.

Duration
Subject to the completion of all regulatory approvals, work on the expansion is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2019, with the commissioning of the lithium concentrate plant expected to be commissioned in 2022.

Latest Developments
Talison has lodged the necessary regulatory approval applications and is in discussions with contractors to allow for site works to begin in the first quarter of 2019.
