Project Description
The Great Western deposit was acquired by Red 5 in April 2020 and forms part of the company’s Darlot Mining Hub strategy. Ore from the Great Western pit will be trucked to the 830 000 t/y gravity and carbon-in-leach Darlot mill for processing.
The openpit mining operation will be underpinned by a maiden openpit ore reserve of 437 500 t grading 2.5 g/t gold for 35 424 oz of contained gold. The project includes 870 000 t of minerals resources at 2.5 g/t gold for 70 300 oz of contained gold.
Based on a proposed mining rate of between 30 000 t to 40 000 t of ore a month, the openpit is expected to be completed over 13 months, with plans to then access the underground orebody through a portal at the base of the pit.
