TSX-V-listed GoviEx Uranium this week hosted a Ministerial delegation at its Madaouela uranium project, in Niger, amid ongoing discussions with government as the project development advances.

Niger Mines Minister Ousmane Abarchi visited the site along with the governor of the Agadez region and local community officials.

The Niger authorities have been conducting a broad inspection of exploration and mining projects within the Agadez region.

During the visit, Abarchi and the other officials reviewed GoviEx’s ongoing ground works and assessed the current mine plans.

The company also shared with the officials its corporate social responsibility initiatives that have contributed to socioeconomic development in the area.

While the results of GoviEx’s discussions with the government related to the formal start of exploitation work remain unclear, GoviEx is confident that the company sufficiently demonstrated its commitment to work with the government of Niger towards a mutually beneficial solution that complies with the law and protects the company’s rights.

The Niger government holds a 20% stake in Comina, a local company that is set to develop the project.

The Madaouela project represents a significant investment in Niger, with an expected initial capital expenditure of $343-million. The project is also expected to generate considerable employment opportunities, including 800 direct jobs over its 20-year mine life.

GoviEx also continues to advance the mine-permitted Muntanga project, in Zambia.
