Gold wage talks to continue on Wednesday
Gold producing companies will receive feedback from three trade unions after the wage negotiation resume in Boksburg on the East Rand on Wednesday.
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), Solidarity and Uasa conditionally accepted the offer from AngloGold Ashanti, Evander Gold Mines, Harmony and Sibanye Gold.
Uasa spokesperson, Franz Stehring said the union accepted the employers offer on the condition that there was a need for the employers to repackage their offer.
“We indicated that we can accept the offer provided there are some changes . . . we made some proposal,” he said.
Dr Elize Strydom, spokesperson for the Chamber of Mines said they were extremely disappointed that their offers had not been accepted.
“Nonetheless, all parties have agreed to engage further in a mediated process led by the three senior independent facilitators who have thus far, been acting as chairpersons during the course of the wage negotiations process,” she said.
“While we will consider the feedback given by the unions this week, and will engage fully next week, the companies confirm that the offers made are final,” she said.
Solidarity and the NUM were not immediately available for their comments in reaction to the wage negotiation issue before the meeting.
The final offer tabled by each of the companies has ensured that the guaranteed pay of entry level employees would reach R12 800 and R13 200 a month in the third year of the agreement.
