Ghana project's mineral resource increases to 2.2Mt
PERTH (miningweekly.com) - Gold hopeful Azumah Resources has increased the gold resource at its Wa project, in Ghana, by some 32%, and nearly doubled the mineral resource at the Julie deposit.
The Wa gold project is now estimated to host some 23.7-million tons, at 1.78 g/t gold of measured and indicated resource for an estimated 1.355-million ounces of gold, with a further 16.7-million tons at 1.58 g/t gold of inferred resource for an estimated 849 000 oz.
The mineral resource at the Julie deposit had also increased to some 9.1-million tons, at 2 g/t gold of measured and indicated resource, to make up some 588 000 oz of gold, and 7.2-million tons of inferred resource, at 1.97 g/t gold for 458 000 oz.
“A near doubling of the Julie mineral resource to over one-million ounces has lifted total mineral resource at the Wa gold project to 2.2-million ounces, which, along with increases in grades and classifications, is likely to have a positive impact on our upcoming feasibility study and mineral reserve updates,” said Azumah MD Stephen Stone.
He noted that Azumah would be extending the scope of the work to include results from the metallurgical recovery optimisation testwork on all the existing deposits, as well as other key operating-cost-impacting inputs, as well as revisiting a higher 1.5-million-ton-a-year start-up plant throughput option, as opposed to the one-million ton a year throughput investigated in the feasibility study.
If adopted, the higher throughput could see the Wa gold project consistently producing some 100 000 oz/y.
“With a healthy cash position, Azumah’s primary objective for 2013 will be to grow the mineral reserve and mine life through aggressive exploration campaigns directed towards the pipeline of brownfield and greenfield targets we have identified in our prospective 3 100 km2 licence holdings, where only 10% has been effectively explored.”
