Project description
Alcan and the Republic of Ghana have signed a memorandum of understanding to form a joint venture to explore the feasibility of developing a bauxite mine and alumina refinery, with an initial capacity of 1,2-million to 1,5-million metric tons a year.
The joint venture will immediately undertake a preliminary concept study (PCS) to review the bauxite reserves, the logistics and preselection of the refinery area, including estimates of costs, and an analysis of social and environmental issues. If the PCS is successful, a feasibility study will be conducted.

The proposed project is estimated to cost in the region of $2-billion.
