PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Base metals developer Galena Mining has set a production target of between 53 000 t and 68 000 t of lead from its Abra project, in Western Australia, for the 2023 financial year.

Construction at the A$170-million Abra project is 75% complete, Galena reported this week, and first concentrate production is on target for the first quarter of 2023.

For the 2023 year, Galena has set a mill throughput target of between 0.8-million and 1-million tonnes, resulting in the lead production expectations set by the company. Following the ramp-up, life-of-mine average yearly production would reach 93 000 t of lead and 553 000 oz of silver with a C1 direct cash cost of $0.50/lb.

“With first concentrate production on target for the March 2023 quarter, we provide this update on near-term and life-of mine plan and targets. During the construction period of the project, we have worked very closely with our partners Toho Zinc and our key service providers to reach the 75% build mark,” said Galena MD Tony James.

“For the remainder of 2022 we plan to safely complete the mine construction and commission Abra as a world-class lead/silver mine.”

Abra is expected to have a mine life of 16 years.
