Galaxy gold mine restart project.

Location
Galaxy gold is situated 6 km west of Barberton, in Mpumalanga, South Africa, and covers 5 863 ha. The mine comprises 21 east-west-trending gold bodies and four prospects at 600 m to 2 000 m in depth.

Project Description
The project involves the phased restart of the Galaxy gold mine, which includes refurbishing existing infrastructure and upgrading the processing facility to take production to 18 000 oz/y.

The first phase includes:
• the refurbishment of the existing 15 000 t/m processing plant, which will include the installation of a new crusher, remedial work to the float section, anew gravity separation section and re-establishment of the elution plant.
• the construction of a new 25 000 t/m carbon-in-leach tailings retreatment plant within the current footprint of the existing processing plant.
• the restart of underground mining at Woodbine, Agnes and Ivy on level 17 using conventional shrink stope mining.
• the start of tailings recovery by sluicing at the Woodbine and Hostel dumps.

This first phase forms a core part of Galane’s long-term strategy to target production of more than 60 000 oz/d.

A total of $2-million will be spent on the first phase of the project and it will be funded from internal cash flows, primarily from the Galane’s core operation in Botswana.
