While the upcoming elections will dominate the early months of 2014, unfinished business from 2013 is also clogging the country’s inbox. Be it government’s muddled approach to economic policy, a sluggish response to restoring an electricity balance or the ongoing trust deficit between the social partners, much more urgency is needed to clear the backlogs. Breakthroughs in all these areas will be critical if the basis is to be laid this year for a much-needed turnaround.
