Geology/Mineralisation
The geology of the Fresnillo district broadly comprises a 1-km-thick suite of Palaeocene to Oligocene, predominantly andesitic volcanics, which overlie deformed Mesozoic marine sediments and submarine mafic volcanics.
Reserves
Total proven and probable reserves as at May 31, 2021, were estimated at 13.22-milion tonnes grading 0.72 g/t gold, 234 g/t silver, 1.17% lead and 3.41% zinc.
Resources
Total measured and indicated resources as at May 31, 2021, were estimated at 32.39-million tonnes grading 0.91 g/t gold, 416 g/t silver, 1.31% lead, and 3.3% zinc. Inferred resources were estimated at 34.02-million tonnes grading 0.73 g/t gold, 332 g/t silver, 1.16% lead and 2.4% zinc.
Mining Method
Underground using bench-and-fill, cut-and-fill, and backfill.
Major Infrastructure/Equipment
The mine includes an 8 000 t/d mill and concentrator.
Prospects
Fresnillo’s exploration activities have shown that that Fresnillo mine area remains underexplored. The company is following up three high-priority exploration targets located within the area of influence of the processing facilities, with positive results.
