Company Announcement - Between 28 March and 12 April the phenomenal qualities of light will be explored during a fantastic holiday programme titled Frantic Photons! Kicking off the festivities is a visit to Sci-Bono by Dr. Stephen Ashworth from the University of East Anglia who will be presenting the awe inspiring and informative show, Light Fantastic. During this free show the special properties of lasers are explored and how lasers can be put to good use in our daily lives. Another scintillating show that will unravel the mysteries of light through a number of exciting demonstrations is The Light Side of Life.

Kids and parents will do more than just look at amazing light shows and will get an opportunity to explore photons, the particles that make up light, hands-on. These hands-on experiments include solar scoping, looking at the sun spots through a Solar telescope, building smart sundials and pop corn by using the light of the sun. It doesn’t stop there, discover why fireflies glow in the dark, how light can bend, take part in a game show quiz and learn why a blue and black dress looks gold and white to some people.

“Our Frantic Photons programme is one of our best holiday programmes ever and we look forward to welcoming thousands of kids and parents during the holidays.” says Michael Ellis, Science Centre Manager.

In addition to the daily programme of activities and shows there are also more than 350 interactive science exhibits to explore and play with that is sure to exhaust kids in a fun and stimulating environment. Active minds lead to hungry stomachs and there is a coffee-shop serving delicious snacks and light meals for hungry Einstein’s. Parents might use the time to do some shopping at the new Newtown Junction Mall or the entire family might want to jump onto a red bus tour that stops right in front of Sci-Bono Discovery Centre.

Sci-Bono Discovery Centre is open Monday to Friday between 9h00 –17h00 and Saturday & Sunday between 9h30 – 16h30. Entry Fees are R25 for children between 3and 16, free for kids under 3 and R40 per adult. Pensioners are free. Some of the workshops have a minimal entrance fee while others are free and are offered on a first come first serve basis.

Hurry up to secure your spot as these shows are very popular!

The centre will only be closed to the public on 3 April.  For more information contact +27 11 639 8400 or email info@sci-bono.co.za or visit our website on www.sci-bono.co.za
