Canadian precious metals miner Fortuna Silver Mines has started with the installation of a semiautogenous (SAG) mill at the Séguéla gold project, in Côte d’Ivoire.

Despite global supply chain challenges, all critical components are now on site significantly reducing risk to the project schedule, the company reports.

It also highlights that the overall Séguéla project remains on schedule for its first gold pour in mid-2023.

“The project continues on time and on budget, with the majority of materials and equipment now on site. Focus has now shifted to operational readiness in preparation for the commissioning of the processing plant, with first gold pour expected in mid-2023,” comments Fortuna COO: West Africa David Whittle.

Mining services contractor Mota-Engil is progressing its mobilisation activities for the project. First deliveries of the mining fleet, including a 95 t excavator, two 100 t haul trucks, two dozers, one grader and two fuel trucks, have arrived on site and are being commissioned.

Preparations for the operational phase of the mine are progressing well. Construction progress in the mine services area and explosives facilities is on track to support the start of mining activities in the first quarter of 2023.

Construction of the run-of-mine pad has also started, along with grade control drilling following the clearing of the Antenna Stage 1 Pit.

Another project highlight has been the completion of the grid connection at the project.

Power is now available for reticulation to the site infrastructure.
